   Why Reuse Water?

Here's an interesting Blog entry from the "green" division at Colliers International, the highly respected global real estate services organization.

"I am at Greenbuild in Chicago and should have more case studies to point to the economic benefits of green and building efficiencies.  There is an economic payback and value proposition to green but the bottom line is that we all need to shift our mindset first on the way we own, operate invest and live in these buildings.

The old way of doing things is no longer cost effective and this will be evident as energy costs and water costs continue to rise to levels where we are forced to look for alternatives.  The opportunity cost is also too high for us not to look for alternatives.  We need to invest and advance instead of focusing on business as usual.

The near sighted view of investment in green solution in real estate and energy should no longer be valid.  We have to take a long term approach to this or it will cost us and future generations more in the end."   --  Colliers International

Just imagine where we would be today had we started driving fuel efficient, hybrid or electric cars 10 years ago!  I'm sure you remember the 'eco geeks' (a.k.a. visionaries) who warned, "...some day we'll run out of oil...!"

Listen carefully to today's visionaries about our water supply and the pending water wars, "Water will be more important than oil in this century".

Water conservation is no longer a passive goal; it is an urgent necessity!

    Residential Systems

The average four person single family home in a temperate climate uses over 20,000 gallons of water monthly.  Over half of which is used for landscape irrigation; think about that, clean drinking water being sprayed on dirt!  The same family uses nearly 3,000 gallons of water per month to flush toilets; talk about good water going after bad!

Our recycling system, will reduce that families municipal water usage by 50% to 70% with a similar reduction in their water bill.  Of greater importance is the fact the family is doing their utmost to preserve one of our most important natural resources.

After installing an Ever Green Recycling System Ed Begley's family of three saved an average of 405 gallons of water daily, an amount verified by his DWP statement.  That's nearly 150,000 gallons annually.

Expand that savings to 500 families using WRS systems and achieving similar savings; 73 Million gallons annually, 1000 families nearly 150 Million gallons.  That's impact!

Using our systems water becomes a reusable asset rather than a one time commodity.  Take long relaxing showers without feeling guilty by knowing the water you're using today will irrigate your lawn and garden tomorrow.  Think of the electricity and other resources saved because that water is not being processed at the local sewer treatment plant.  Instead, after reuse it's percolating down into the water table, being recycled as mother nature has been doing for thousands of years.

   Resorts and Hotels

Resort property owners and operators are already feeling the water conservation squeeze.  Particularly those in arid climates where lush foliage and landscaping is mandatory for proper appearance, guest experience and ambiance.  The use of recycled water will have a huge impact on operating costs and profitability.  In addition, the ability to legitimately claim membership in the "Green Movement" will only be beneficial for the resort.

There are a growing number of resorts and hotels being built to LEED standards.  LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a progressive building code implemented by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) that awards energy efficient, sustainable construction.  A major component of a LEED compliant structure is it's ability to reuse gray and rainwater; both ideal for our systems.

   Commercial Buildings

While in general commercial buildings produce proportionally less gray water than residences and resorts there are those businesses that can greatly benefit.  Take the Paul MItchell Salon School in Costa Mesa.  By reusing their shampoo and laundry water to flush toilets they save nearly 400,000 gallons annually.

In addition, the USGBC LEED program is becoming increasingly prevalent in new and remodel commercial construction.  The LEED System encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria.  The system gives building owners and operators the tools they need to have an immediate and measurable impact on their building's performance.  Simply put, LEED compliant buildings are a healthier and safer place to work.

Because of the versatile design and installation capabilities of our recycling units they are perfect for LEED projects and all commercial buildings.

Apartment Buildings and Multi Family Units

For apartment owners, condominium and PUD associations the demand to conserve water is growing and becoming more critical.  Homeowner association overall water allocations are being limited with restrictions being placed on landscape irrigation and water use in general.
